These vehicles not only created panic, but also caused a lot of noise pollution.” Thinking that the sound may be blowing by a police patrol vehicle, all our neighbours would get alert and start peeping from their balconies to see what is happening in their vicinity. Gurpratap Singh, a resident of Bharat Nagar, said, “What is the use of starting such a facility when people are inconvenienced? These vehicles would come in the afternoon and start making a loud noise. Moreover, the sound is too loud and these vehicles come in the afternoon when we have to relax.” Gurleen said, “Ever since these garbage collection vehicles with hooters have started visiting their locality, residents in our area get disturbed as the hooter sound resembles that of police patrolling vehicles. Gurleen Kaur of Patel Nagar was woken up from her sleep in the afternoon as soon as the loud sound of the hooter was blown by the vehicle in her locality. Notably, the residents rued that loud sounds were creating a noise pollution in residential areas of the city. After city residents raised concern over loud siren sounds (hooters), the Municipal Corporation of Bathinda has removed the hooters from garbage-collection vehicles and instal the new ones in their place. ![]()
